Why Use Group Roles?
Group and team work is becoming more and more popular in the classroom and in the workplace. Therefore, students need to have a strong understanding of how a successful group functions and reaches its goals. It is a known fact, that how people interact in a group is a key factor to the success of the group, as such, it is important that students have early exposure to the interpersonal skills and collaboration that is necessary to have a well functioning group dynamic (Carleton University, 2013). Group roles are an excellent way to encourage students to have positive interdependence and interaction with one another for an academic purpose. Group roles can also allow students to overcome communications difficulties among students, and ensure that each person within the group has a job to do, and contributes to the groups success!
Finally, group roles can help each student in the classroom work on their weaknesses, and highlight their strengths!
